Sample question:
A plant that resembles a long narrow aeration tank that receives the heaviest loading at the front end of the tank and decreases as flow moves through the tank is known as what type of system?
A) Contact stabilization system
B) Bardenpho system
C) Plug flow system
D) Complete mix system
Answer: A plug flow system is identified by its characteristically long narrow tanks, with the heaviest loading near the influent area and tapering off as it travels through the system. These systems are less prone to filamentous bulking as long as sufficient dissolved oxygen is present near the influent. So the answer is C, plug flow system.
